Specific roads grants projects funding announced for the county

The details of a number of specific roads grants made by the Department of Transport for schemes in Mayo was announced recently. Minister of State in that Department, Michael Ring, made a number of announcements on the schemes. Each of the three town councils in the county in Ballina, Castlebar, and Westport will receive a block grant of €161,300. Eight Mayo roads will have been given grants under the Low Cost Safety Scheme, with €30,000 allocated to the Westport to Louisburgh road (R335). €15,000 allocated to Saleen Quay (R313-Belmullet to Blacksod road), €30,000 allocated to Corradrish (L1324-near Bonnifinglas, Foxford), €50,000 allocated to Bohaun (R323-Knock to Kiltimagh road), €20,000 allocated to Moyne (R334-Cross to Headford road), €3,000 allocated to the Windy Gap (L1721-Castlebar to Lahardane road), €21,000 allocated to Kilkelly to Lowpark (LP1304/LP1904). and €70,000 to Bonniconlon (R294).

Tributes paid to the late John Carty, ‘one of life’s true gentlemen’

A man of the people” and someone who “always endeavoured to do his very best” were just some of the tributes paid yesterday to the late John Carty, who passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 63. The former politician from Knock had served Mayo as Fianna Fáil TD from 2002 until the 2007 general election, and after that as a member of the Seanad from 2007 until 2011 when he decided not to run again. Prior to that Mr Carty had been a county councillor for the Claremorris electoral area. He is survived by his wife Kathleen and their eight children.

Auctioneers receive first Recognised European Valuer Certs

Members of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) received their Recognised European Valuer, or REV Certificate, at a function in the Institute of Technology, Tallaght, recently. The certificates were co-presented by the Minister of State at the Departments of Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Brian Hayes, and the chairman of TEGoVA, the European Valuers’ representative body, Roger Messenger. Among those to receive their certificates was Caroline Kirrane, Kirrane auctioneering, Main Street, Ballyhaunis.
